Police Cruisers for Canines
For the past few months, the Merseyside Police in the United Kingdom have been using special police cruisers, specifically designed to accommodate police dogs.
The seats were modeled around German Shepherds, and allow the canine members of the crew to sit comfortably. There is also a special escape door, which opens automatically and is designed to allow the dog to exit the car quickly, while preventing accidents. The overall purpose is to make it safer and more efficient for the dogs to act when a suspect decides to flee. The cars have proven to be a successful and worthwhile endeavor. They have resulted in capturing criminals quicker, and have prevented some from escaping altogether. Like the regular cruisers, the new cars include all the latest in crime fighting technology and safety features.
The Chief of Police claims the cars were manufactured to keep police dogs safe, and as a reminder that canines are valued and vital members of the team.
